Overview

As part of this regular monitoring the Ministry now consider, an amendment is necessary for Milford School.

The enrolment scheme for Milford School will need to be amended to ensure the size of the zone matches the optimum capacity of the school and to prevent overcrowding. Therefore, the Ministry of Education is proposing an amendment of the Milford School enrolment scheme.

The proposal is to amend the home zone of Milford School zone aimed at reducing the risk of overcrowding and distributing students. The proposal includes the removal of the current ‘overlap’ or ‘shared area’ between the Campbells Bay and Milford school zones and the northern overlap between Forrest Hill and Milford School zones. See map for details.

The focus is on ensuring every student has a reasonably convenient school that they can attend. Safety of students and teachers is our priority, and the proposed changes we are suggesting are the best way to avoid overcrowding.

Any student currently enrolled at Milford School will not be impacted by a change to the enrolment scheme. All students enrolled (and have started attending) will be entitled to continue attending their school, irrespective of where they currently live.

What this means for my family

If you live in the enrolment scheme home area for Milford School, you will be entitled to enrol your child at the school. The enrolment remains in place for the length of your child’s primary education or until you choose other schooling options.

Families who live outside the amended enrolment scheme home zone of Milford School do not have entitlement to enrol and could only attend if the School Board planned to enrol any out of zone students through an official ballot process. Places will only be available if the Board considers it has the capacity to allow for this.

The amendment is proposed to take effect from Term 1, 2025. Any pre-enrolments for 2025 may be impacted by the proposed amendment. Please check that you are within the proposed boundaries of the new home zone to be entitled to enrol at Milford School.

The Board will publish this information by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. The notice will indicate how applications are to be made and will specify a date by which all applications must be received.
